twist stitches apart and together

Some complex twists used in Adventure Knitting 3 patterns: all the various twist apart and twist together stitches from the Unicorn and Sloth patterns.

Long videos, including with & without a cable needle...

Twist 3 apart over 3 - both right and left (these tutorials are all showing over purl stitches, as in the Unicorn pattern - T3R-apart-over3p / T3L-apart-over3p - just knit all stitches to work as in the Sloth patterns):

(see the video on YouTube here)

Twist 3 together over 3 - both right and left (these tutorials are all showing over 1 purl / 2 knits, as in the Unicorn pattern - T3L-tog-over3-p1k2 / T3R-tog-over3-k2p1 - just knit all stitches to work as in the Sloth patterns):

twist 3 right apart over 3 (shown is T3R-apart-over3p)

with a cable needle; start by slipping 3 to cable needle and holding to back

knit 1 from the normal needle, purl or knit 1 (back stitch) from the cable needle

repeat that last step twice more

(same as above) twist 3 right apart over 3 (shown is T3R-apart-over3p) - without a cable needle; use cabling without a cable needle technique to bring 1 stitch right over 3...

...then knit the first/front stitch, and purl or knit only the first of the 3 back stitches

twist 1 stitch right over the 2 remaining back stitches, knit that front stitch, and purl or knit the first 1 of the 2 back stitches

twist right 1 over 1, knit the front stitch and purl or knit the back stitch

twist 3 left apart over 3 (shown is T3L-apart-over3p)

with a cable needle; start by slipping 3 to cable needle and holding to front

purl or knit 1 (back stitch) from the normal needle, knit 1 from the cable needle

repeat that last step twice more

(same as above) twist 3 left apart over 3 (shown is T3L-apart-over3p) - without a cable needle; use cabling without a cable needle technique to bring 3 stitches left over 1 purl or knit back stitch, and knit only the first of the 3 front stitches

cable the 2 remaining front stitches left over 1 purl or knit back stitch, knitting only the first front stitch

twist the 1 remaining front stitch left over 1 purl or knit back stitch, working both

twist 3 left together over 3 (shown is T3L-tog-over3-p1k2)

(for T3L-tog-over3-p1k2, the 3 back stitches are worked as purl the first 1, knit the next 2) with a cable needle; start by twisting 1 over 1 left...

...purling or knitting the back stitch, but leaving the front stitch on the needle

now slip 2 stitches onto the cable needle, hold to front, and knit or purl 1 (back stitch) off the normal needle

slip 1 more stitch onto the cable needle, and knit or purl 1 more (back stitch) off the normal needle

now knit all 3 stitches off the cable needle

(same as above) twist 3 left together over 3 (shown is T3L-tog-over3-p1k2, so the 3 back stitches are worked as purl the first 1, knit the next 2) - without a cable needle; start by working a twist left over 1 purl or knit back stitch, but do not knit the front stitch

now slip 2 stitches...

...and knit or purl 1 back stitch, then use cabling without a cable needle technique to bring the 2 slipped stitches left over the 1 worked stitch, but do not work the 2 front stitches

now slip 3 stitches, knit or purl 1 more back stitch, then cable the 3 slipped stitches left over the 1 worked stitch...

...and knit the 3 front stitches

twist 3 right together over 3 (shown is T3R-tog-over3-k2p1)

(for T3R-tog-over3-k2p1, the 3 back stitches are worked as knit the first 2 stitches, purl the third 1) with a cable needle; slip 1 stitch onto the cable needle and hold to back, then knit 1 (front) stitch

slip 1 more stitch onto the cable needle, still holding to back, and knit 1 more (front) stitch off the normal needle

repeat the last step once more, then work all 3 back stitches off the cable needle - knits or purls as the pattern calls for

(same as above) twist 3 right together over 3 (shown is T3R-tog-over3-k2p1, so the 3 back stitches are worked as knit the first 2 stitches, purl the third 1) - without a cable needle; start by twisting 1 over 1 right, knitting the front stitch and keeping the back stitch on the left-hand needle

use cabling without a cable needle technique to work a cable 1 right over 2, knitting the front stitch and keeping the back 2 stitches on the left-hand needle

work a cable 1 stitch right over 3...

...knitting the front stitch, then working all 3 back stitches - knits or purls as the pattern calls for
